OUR SERVICES
TEC Services provides a wide array of technical services for the University community to include corrective and preventive maintenance for scientific instrumentation and repairs for computers, printers, fax machines, and typewriters. In addition to University of Georgia departmental customers, our services are available to University students, faculty, and staff; and to Federal, State, and other local governmental agencies.
We are dedicated to prompt, cost-effective, and quality service to meet our customers' constantly changing technical needs. Continually striving to broaden our support offerings, TEC Services provides the following services:
Computer Repair
TEC Services is an authorized warranty service center for the Apple, Dell and Lenovo brands of personal computers (PC). PC warranty repairs receive our highest service priority and are usually completed within 3 to 4 business days. UGA departmental customers can elect for TEC Services to perform warranty repairs on-site at no additional cost, or they may opt to transport their PCs to the TEC Services’ facility on South Campus. For computer brands other than Apple, Dell and Lenovo, we can facilitate warranty repairs by sending your computer to one of our established service partners who are authorized to perform warranty repairs on virtually any brand of computer. We also provide reasonably priced, post-warranty service on all brands and configurations of personal computers utilizing a fixed-fee pricing structure. While we are capable of performing almost any type of repair at our service facility, it is sometimes more cost-effective to use the services of one of our commercial service partners due to the limited availability of certain types of replacement parts. In those cases where we must facilitate (send off for repair) the repair of your computer, we will assess a reasonable fixed fee for performing this service. Our Facilitation Fee covers our costs to provide the initial fault diagnosis; package and ship the computer to our service partner (using UPS 2nd Day Air); tracking the progress of the repair; receiving the repaired computer at our facility; and performing a post-service test on your computer to ensure it functions to your expectations.
If your computer needs an upgrade such as a larger hard-drive, a DVD-R/W drive, or more memory, please bring it in for a quotation. For UGA Departments that like to budget for IT maintenance costs while receiving one of our highest service priorities, please consider purchasing one of our Annual Maintenance Agreements. If your computer is no longer covered by the manufacturer’s warranty, our Annual Maintenance Agreements will pay for the cost of labor and replacement parts required to restore your equipment to a normal operating condition.
Expedited Service
Customers who wish to improve their service priority can purchase the Express Service option for $75.00. A computer with the Express Service option will be placed at the top of the waiting list for entry into the diagnostics phase of the repair unless the waiting list includes one or more computers covered by a TEC Services Annual Maintenance Agreement. Because our Annual Maintenance Agreements provide for specific response times, we are not able to place an Express Service computer ahead of computers with pre-purchased service priorities.
The Express Service option does not provide for expedited parts shipments. Since we have no control over the delivery time for the replacement parts, we cannot commit to a firm date for completing the repair. Once the part arrives at our facility, we will assure that it receives a priority in our reception process and that the repair technician completes the repair as soon as he/she receives the necessary part(s).
Customers who desire a faster outbound or inbound shipping method for the part(s) and therefore a more predictable service completion date should select one or both of these options on the Work Order Info Form adjacent to the EXPRESS SERVICE option. The customer will be responsible for paying the price of all expedited shipping costs, outbound or inbound.
Office Equipment
TEC Services provides rapid, reliable maintenance for office equipment such as laser and large format printers, fax machines, and typewriters. We are an authorized warranty center for Hewlett-Packard (HP) and Dell laser printers, and we are capable of repairing virtually all models and makes of laser and ink-jet printers that are out of warranty. Printer service is provided on an as-needed basis using an hourly labor rate plus parts. Our printer service technicians constantly update their service portfolios to stay apace of changing technology.
Scientific Instrumentation Repair
TEC services provides prompt, effective service on a wide range of scientific instrumentation from pH meters and shaker tables to ultracentrifuges and mass spectrometers. In general, service capabilities are limited only by the availability of parts and technical data. In most cases, customers pay a labor fee that is approximately one half the rate that is charged by factory service engineers. TEC Services also offers economically-priced annual maintenance agreements for Beckman Instruments centrifuges (L and J Series) and Thermo-Fisher Scientific centrifuges (Sorvall R2 and R5 Series).
Electronics Parts Sales
Our Electronics Parts Store provides readily available, economically-priced electronics parts and computer accessories. TEC Services stocks computer components and peripherals such as hard drives, DVD/CD R/W drives, wire/wireless routers, hubs, keyboards, mice, cables (USB, monitor, printer, ethernet patch cords), and more. The store also carries electronics and electrical components including fuses, switches, batteries, lamps, and discrete electronics components (transistors, resistors, capacitors, etc.). We can special order any parts that are not stocked in our parts sales storeroom.
